Sri Lankan oud oils broadly divide into two traditions. The first is what is sometimes called the Borneo Sunshine Signature — bright, high-end florals intertwined with that sweet Walla Patta character, overlapping beautifully with the finest Borneo distillations. The second is an earthier, mineral-type scent, darker and more grounded, known in the trade as Ruh Silani.
Amir Silani straddles both worlds like a colossus. It carries the sunshine floral note of the first tradition, yet it is anchored in an earthy, mineral heart and base drawn from the second. The result is a genuinely unique oil that refuses to be confined to either category.
On application, the opening is distinctly bittersweet and medicinal, layered with a sweet, dry incense note. This is not the bright, fruity florality of our other Walla Patta offerings. There is a dark edge here, a quality reminiscent of dry resin and jungle, with that characteristic medicinal bitterness threading through the composition.
A generous application is recommended. The oil rewards patience and quantity, revealing its full character only when given room to breathe. As the dry down progresses, the florals of Walla Patta begin to emerge — but these are nocturnal florals: dark, mysterious, and intimate rather than bright and celebratory.
In the base, incense, florals, and resin converge to evoke the atmosphere of a jungle at dusk: foliage, dark green flora, and the quiet intensity of a landscape settling into night. One of the most unique Sri Lankan oils we have encountered, offered to our Kinana subscribers at a price that reflects our appreciation for their loyalty.

At Kinana, artisanal fragrance means perfumery made by hand, in small batches, by makers who answer to their materials rather than to a production schedule. Where an industrial scent is engineered for consistency and scale — built to smell identical across millions of bottles, to a tightly controlled cost, favouring synthetic bases and standardised accords — an artisanal one is composed with care around genuine naturals and well-chosen isolates, accepting the small variations that come with real ingredients rather than smoothing them away. It favours quality and provenance over yield: real oud rather than an oud-like accord, materials chosen for their character, and compositions given time to rest and mature. Our purpose at Kinana is to bring that craft within reach — fragrance with depth and individuality, revealing itself gradually on the skin and carrying the character of what it was made from, rather than a uniform impression produced at scale.
